It may seem like a minor event to you but there was singing and dancing in the polytunnel when I discovered our very first item of food growing and ready to be eaten on the spot! I was admiring the flowers on the pea plants when I spied a real live pea pod! Oh joy, feelings of elation, much back patting, and smiling all accompanied by mouth watering. We took a quick vote ... whether to leave it on and wait for the unbelievably sweet and delicious peas to mature inside ... or to pick it there and then and eat it pod and all, like mange tout. How could we possibly wait, we ate it, half each. Oh sweet heaven, a symphony of flavour, hopefully first of many vegetables to come.
Thank you folks who took the time to email me comments on this post when Typepad comments facility was not working, I was touched you took the extra time to do that. x

It's so difficult to resist the first fruits of your labours!

How beautiful! When I lived out west and planted these the rabbits enjoyed the fruits of my labor. At the end of the growing season they left me one little pod.
I hope you have better success than I did!
